On 19 October, The Spectator published a comment piece claiming the state “imports thousands upon thousands of dangerous rapists”. It cited a Home Office leaflet on UK law and said the state then lets these people loose in towns and cities across the country.

This pins one of the gravest crimes there is on people coming to the UK, including the 85,891 people who claimed asylum in the year to June 2026, and it offers no evidence for the scale it alleges. IPSO, the complaints body The Spectator has signed up to, does not protect groups under its discrimination rule, leaving publishers unaccountable for claims like these.
