The Hack: Campaign Video Fundraiser

I'm Jacqui Hames, victim of press abuse and Hacked Off Board Director.

Next week, one of the most difficult periods of my life will be dramatised on ITV.

Starting on the evening of Wednesday, September 24th, ITV’s The Hack will show how reporters for News UK – publisher of The Sun and The Times – spied on me and my family, and caused us to fear for our safety.

Produced by the team that brought you Mr Bates & the Post Office, the series will run for seven episodes (available on the ITVX platform) and features an all-star cast led by David Tennant, Toby Jones, Robert Carlyle and the actress who will play me, Eve Myles. The drama ends at the Leveson Inquiry, in 2012.

But as you know, the real story didn’t stop there.

In the years which have followed, newspapers have done everything they can to evade accountability, and backtrack on promises made. So far, they’ve got away with it.

Today, there is still no one holding newspapers to account.  They have higher readerships than ever before through their online reach, yet they are able to intrude on, lie to and mislead the public with impunity.

We need the public to know that as shocking as the drama is, the real scandal is that - over the last ten years - absolutely nothing has changed.

We want to produce a punchy and compelling short video, to grab viewers’ attention while they watch the drama. We have a strategy to help it reach people flicking through their phones while the drama is on the TV throughout October, and get it as widely shown as possible.

With £10,000, we can not only get it made but also get it in front of viewers in October, right when the drama hits its stride.

We’ve got big plans for the next couple of months – and this is a crucial part of them.

Please consider making a gift today to support this powerful short video, and help us make the most of this huge opportunity to finally bring about real change in the press.
